He stated that there was great potential in growing a taxation process which was pocket friendly which put in perspective the six critical factors of his administration as the tax chief which helped at putting data gathering to use in order to establish those who earn and what they pay as taxes; building the human and capital capacity; having a formidable regulating environment; use of advanced technology (PoS, ATM Card, e-wallet); enlightenment and guarantying value for money.

The CITN President, Dr. Teju Somorin observed that EIRS was on the right track since it had passed its reforms which have helped at boosting internally generated revenue (IGR). She nonetheless advised the EIRS chairman to focus on capacity building through the training and re-training of staff on tax issues since taxation was not static but universal in nature. She saw the need to put members of staff at par with world practice.

She recommended the “Mandatory Professional Training Programme” (MPTP), for CITN members, to staff of the EIRS, to educate and update on tax development. She went further to counsel the EIRS Chairman on why it became expedient to give incentives to staff to motivate the effective discharge of duties.

The Chairman, Benin and District Society, CITN, Mr. Eiche Dominic on his part stated that the CITN was at the EIRS to sensitize members at the EIRS Board and staff of the upcoming Annual Tax Conference slated for May 17-20, 2017 at Abeokuta-Ogun State, against the backdrop that the EIRS motivation and assistance has helped the financial body at carting away series of awards at previous editions.

Mr. Eiche Dominic stated that apart from the EIRS forming the bulk of tax practitioners in the state, by the CITN volunteering to offer training to board staff and other tax related sister ministries and agencies at the EIRS training school facility, would no doubt sharpen tax practice and increase knowledge on tax issues in the state.
