The Executive Chairman, Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), Mr. Igbinidu Inneh has asserted that for any organization to reach out to the public it was meant to serve, the media must play its critical role of information dissemination.
Igbinidu Inneh made this known when he played host to the newly elected Chairman and Executives of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Independent Television/Radio Chapel who were at the EIRS Corporate Headquarters on a courtesy visit.
Recognizing the positive effect of the media, particularly on enlightenment, the EIRS boss assured the ITV/Radio NUJ Chapel Chairman of the EIRS’ desire to partner with their establishment on tax awareness and education. He urged them to maximize its media to drive home the message on tax payment as a civic duty and responsibility of citizens.
Inneh, informed that in the administration of government revenue, for which tax was just a source, the EIRS has identified six critical success factors that will drive the future of revenue administration not only in Edo State but in Nigeria as a whole especially at a time some states are struggling to attain self-sufficiency.
According to the EIRS boss, the six critical factors consist of internal capacity of the service at management of taxpayers’ data; utilizing and placing the right type of technology in the right hands in order to make revenue administration process seamless and efficient; capacity building of its workforce; enlightenment and social inclusion; legal and regulatory framework as well as value for taxpayers’ money.
