The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Edo State Barr, Henry Idahagbon has said that the promulgation and subsequent enforcement of the Land Use Charge Law by the Edo State Government was in the right direction and of the best interest of the people, assuring that the less privileged will benefit immensely.
Barr. Idahagbon maintained that the Land Use Charge, was part of revenue generation to the government and that the charge was imposed on shop owners and commercial building owners who generate funds.
According to him, there is a law that regulates the payment of the Land Use Charge and the laws have been in place for about three years now and it conforms to the best practice of international law.
He said further that the law was to ensure that the middle class, upper class pay taxes for their properties to take care of the poor, saying that the poor people are not affected by the enforcement.
He asserted that the law affects those who have houses in core areas like GRAs, Mission Road, Akpakpava, Sokponba Road, Airport Road, and other major roads, noting that it is not for those who are in high density areas.
He however, urged Edo people to comply as the state Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole had distinguished himself, especially in view of the regular salaries paid to workers in the state, whereas some state are still finding it difficult to meet with their obligation.
The Attorney General posited that the Governor does not have a mint company and that he solely relies on taxes from the state to run his government.
