The Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) today 14th November, 2025 announced a landmark strategic partnership with the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) this afternoon in Abuja.
The MoU, signed by the Executive Chairman of Edo-IRS, Hon. Oladele Bankole-Balogun, and a representative of the NFIU, marks a major step in the state’s drive to leverage intelligence and data analytics to drastically expand its tax net and enhance transparency in revenue administration.
The primary objective of the collaboration is to enable the seamless exchange of financial intelligence and data, which will empower the Edo-IRS to identify high-net-worth individuals (HNIs) and corporate entities currently outside the tax database, track down instances of tax evasion, and minimize revenue leakages across the state.
Speaking shortly after the signing, the Executive Chairman of Edo-IRS, Hon. Oladele Bankole-Balogun, emphasized the digital and intelligence-led nature of the new partnership.
”This alliance with the NFIU is a game-changer for our revenue architecture,”
It signifies a critical shift from traditional enforcement methods to an intelligence-driven compliance regime.
We are now strategically equipped to analyze financial data, trace taxable income, and ensure every eligible citizen and business contributes their fair share. This move is crucial to achieving the state’s ambitious Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) goal, which are vital for funding the Senator Monday Okpebholo led administration and the SHINE agenda which centres on security, health, infrastructure, harnessing our natural and agricultural resources as well as education.”
He further added that the partnership aligns perfectly with the Edo-IRS’s commitment to digitalization and closing the gap between potential and actual revenue collection.
