The Edo State Internal Revenue Service EIRS, has called for a synergy and collaboration with the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic & Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, curb incidences of tax evasion and to strengthen tax compliance efforts.
The call was made by the Executive Chairman, EIRS, Hon. Barr Oladele Bankole-Balogun when he led members of the EIRS Board (Deacon Patrick Akhimien Idiake, Hon. Sir Ohio-Ezomo and Hon.Engr Jackson Eribo) on a courtesy visit to the office of the Ag. Zonal Director of the Economic & Financial Crimes Commission , EFCC in Benin City.
While addressing the EFCC Ag. Zonal Director, ACE I Effa I. Okim, Hon. Bankole Balogun immensely praised the EFCC leadership for its efforts at supporting the objective of the Revenue Service by ensuring taxable persons and corporate organizations comply with the relevant tax Laws and preventing economic sabotage.
He informed that the Board put in place by His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo has amongst others, the objective to provide and grow the Internally Generated Revenue of the State to enable the Governor Okpebholo led administration actualize its five points agenda of security, infrastructure & road development, affordable healthcare, water & food sufficiency, and value-driven education across the State for the benefit of Edolites.
The EIRS boss noted further that the Revenue Service recorded over ten billion naira in the month of January, 2025 and sued for the support of the Command to enable it to sustain the progress.
Responding, the Ag. Zonal Director of the Benin Zonal Directorate, commended the EIRS boss and his team for the recorded achievement within a short time.
He however noted that through its processes and procedures the EFCC has been at the forefront of ensuring taxpayers are tax compliant in Edo State and will continue to do so.
While assuring the EIRS Chairman and the Board of his command’s support and collaboration, he equally admonished the State government not to betray citizens’ trust by ensuring a transparent and judicious utilization of generated revenue for the benefit of the people.
