The Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) on Wednesday 21st April, 2021, arrested eight (8) persons linked with illegal revenue collection in Orogho Community, Orhiomwon Local Government Area of Edo State.
In a statement signed by the EIRS Head of Corporate Communications, Courage Eboigbe and made available to the press, says the suspects were arrested right at the spot where their nefarious activities were perpetuated.
The statement reads:
“The Enforcement Team of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), on Wednesday 21st April, 2021, arrested eight (8) persons suspected to be involved in illegal revenue collection in Orogho Community, Orhiomwon Local Government Area of Edo State.
The suspects were arrested right at the spot where their nefarious activities are carried out.
The arrest was at the heels of complaints received from concerned Edolites who suspected their modus operandi was illegal.
Upon interrogation, the suspects could neither identify themselves as Staff of the EIRS nor agents of the State.
Items found on the eight suspects during the arrest, were unaccounted sums of money.
The suspected illegal revenue collectors have been handed over to the State Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Benin, for further investigation and subsequent arraignment in Court.”
