The Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) says it will continue to ensure that the existing smooth relationship with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) is sustained.
The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service, Chief (Sir.) Oseni Elamah gave the assurance when he played host to the Assistant Corp Marshal Zonal Commander of FRSC RS5 Benin City, Corps Marshal Shehu Zaki.
Chief Elamah who viewed the FRSC as a strategic partner with the EIRS pointed out that there has been a lot of improvement in the revenue administration.
Represented by the Executive Director in the agency, Hon. John Obazee, Chief Elamah specifically cited the issue of fake drivers licence/number plate pointing out that some persons were still involved in the malpractice.
On the issue of one-stop-shop Drivers Licencing Registration Centres (DLC) the EIRS boss said it was realised that some of the offices earmarked for the centres were inappropriate owing to security challenges and accessibility.
He disclosed that the state government has approved conducive places where the centres are expected to be relocated, just as he assured that the centres will soon be fixed and operation commenced.
Earlier, the Assistant Corp Marshal Zonal Commander RS5 Benin City of the FRSC Shehu Zaki, said upon his appointment in July, it was necessary he paid a familiarization visit to the revenue agency judging by the mutual relationship between the EIRS and the FRSC.
Zaki who noted the importance of the drivers licensing registration centres to both the EIRS and FRSC harped on the need for the establishment of the centres for the interest of the teeming applications. He expressed the FRSC’s concern over the issue of fake drivers Licence and number plate still persisting in the system disclosing that the commission was taking proactive measures towards checkmating the menace.
It will be noted that each of the drivers licencing registration centres has been commissioned in Benin City, Ekpoma and Auchi respectively.
