The Edo State Internal Revenue Service Executive Chairman has paid glowing tribute to Justice Cromwell Idahosa, for his sterling leadership quality which facilitated the revenue drive of Edo State Government.
The Executive Chairman who made this known when he led members of the EIRS Board and Management Team to consort with the outgoing Chief Judge of Edo State, revealed that the tax procedure of the state which is backed by law, presently had over 4, 000 tax cases in court which is a reflection of how effective the tax regime is aside the presence of dedicated special courts handling tax issues.
While noting that the Land Use Charge in the state got significant input from the administration of justice, under the leadership of the Chief Judge, he stated that Justice Idahosa brought in panache and style to the dispensation of Justice which led to the development in the state.
Chief Elamah stated that all the applause and encomiums the Edo State Government enjoyed under the leadership of Governor Oshiomhole with the support of the EIRS was largely due to the collaborative effort of the Chief Judge who was proactive and erudite.
He appreciated the collaborative effort of the government and the judiciary and sued for more support to enable it discharge its judicial functions effectively.
Elamah pointed out that a chunk of the proposed 2017 budget was dedicated to the maintenance of the “temple of justice” to make for adequate renovation of infrastructures to make courts habitable to people who work there
Stating that it was germane to celebrate the Chief Judge for his significant contribution to the development of Edo State in conformity with the position of the law, Chief Elamah avowed that the suit instituted by the EIRS against a popular private television station in Edo State was won by the revenue service, has led to reforms in various states of the federation through the Joint Tax Board (JTB).
While thanking God for achievements made so far by the Edo State Government, Elamah expressed his confidence in Governor Obaseki who incidentally was part of the success story of the past administration where he served as chairman Tax Assessment Review Committee (TARC) before being elected as Governor.
Hon. Justice Cromwell Idahosa who was visibly overwhelmed by the encomiums received, said “it is good you are telling me to my face that officially that I have done a good job. I did it for my state.”
The Chief Judge observed that though the judiciary was a silent partner in the success story of the state’s development, he stated that for any tax collect to be possible, it must be backed by law before it can enjoy adequate support of the courts of law.
