The Executive Chairman of Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), Chief (Sir) Oseni Elamah has charged heads/executive members of organizations in the state to demonstrate leadership role by registering for the Tax Identification Number (TIN) in other for their members to follow suit if they must partner in strengthening tax administration in the state.

 

Elamah stated this when he played host to members of the Organization of Exporters/Importers of Nigeria (ORIEN) led by its state Chairman, Gini Osigbemhe.

 

He said the EIRS was opened for members of the public to come and share information on tax related matters, urging ORIEN members to ensure they are captured in their annual returns such that they could be properly assessed.

 

“I want you to demonstrate that you are ready to partner with us and add value to the society,” Chief Elamah stated.

 

Secretary General of ORIEN, Emmanuel Osagie, said that since the state government places more emphasis on revenue generation, there was need for them to associate with the revenue agency, know what is obtainable with a view to ascertain the database for tax assessment, hence we are coming under a body to be able to bring them for assessment, said Osagie.

 

Continuing he said that defaulters don’t know what they are missing.

“If you don’t pay comply with tax payment, it means you don’t want good things”.

 

He however commended the Executive Chairman for transforming the state tax system, saying that he was very impressed.
