In a bid to adequately engage taxpayers through tax education and sensitization, the Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), has inaugurated the State Tax Engagement and Enlightenment Team (STEET).
Speaking at the inauguration, which took place at the Sunny Okundia Training School, EIRS Corporate Headquarters in Benin City, the Executive Chairman, Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), Igbinidu Inneh, admonished the STEET Officers to exhibit excellence and be civil in carrying out their assignment, as they have now become ambassadors of the Service.
He said, “as revenue administrators, you are expected to be above board, you must conduct yourselves in a civil manner, see yourselves as ambassadors of this institution and conduct yourselves in that light, while maintaining the hallmark of excellence that the EIRS represents as whatever you do out there tells on our image. In the event that you don’t conduct yourselves properly, the Service will not hesitate to take very decisive action”.
The EIRS boss stated that one of the team’s responsibilities was to collect from taxpayers, accurate data that will enable the Service to give proper assessment instead of the estimated or best of judgment (BoJ) assessment given in the past.
Mr. Inneh further added that the data to be gathered by the STEET Officers, would be used by the Service to advise government on the revenue potentials from different areas of the state and the investment government needs to channel to each area.
He however sued for the cooperation of everyone to making the exercise a success.
