The Edo State Internal Revenue Service has called on illegal revenue collectors operating and defrauding unsuspecting members of the public at Udo town, Uvbe and Okpella communities to stop forthwith as anyone caught contravening this directive would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the relevant extant laws.
Voicing his displeasure in a press statement issued by the Corporate Communications Unit, the Executive Chairman, EIRS, Chief OseniElamah stated that the attention of the EIRS has been drawn to activities of unscrupulous persons engaged in illegal cash collection, who collect log control and agricultural produce fees in Udotown at Ovia North-East Local Government Area, Uvbe in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area and Okpella in Etsako Local Government Area of Edo State were illegal and should be stopped forthwith as the EIRS or persons duly authorized by it were the only authorized agency of government mandated to collect revenue on behalf of Edo State Government.
Advising persons, groups or communities involved to illegal collection to desist from such acts, the EIRS Chief said, no official, was alloyed to mount road blocks or collect any form of revenue on high ways as this constitute a breach of the law.
