EIRS PRESS RELEASE
18th February, 2025.
CLARIFICATION ON EDO STATE DIGITIZED REVENUE ADMINISTRATION SYSTEM
The Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) wishes to reiterate that its digitized revenue platform- the Edo Revenue Administration System (ERAS) remains and still in use to administer revenue across all revenue streams, in all Ministries Department and Agencies (MDAs) in the State and has not been abandoned as falsely claimed.
The ERAS, is a home grown revenue technology solution suites built and owned by the Edo IRS for the purpose of providing an effective and efficient tax administration system designed to enhance transparency and accountability in revenue generation. Being a property of Edo State Government, the revenue administration system was never abandoned and has been in use by the Revenue Service. This is further buttressed by a Government Special Announcement issued by the Secretary to the State Government on 23rd December, 2024.
However, a recent report published by thisdaylive.com which suggested that “the Edo State Government might have jettisoned its digital revenue collection system, originally implemented during the administration of Godwin Obaseki” is very laughable, inaccurate, another lie and a lame reportage from another skeptic that should be ignored just like the beer palour permutation of N8bn to N2bn drop in the State’s IGR narrative.
For the avoidance of doubt, the EIRS wishes to further clarify that it operates a cashless collection policy, utilizing several payment options such as online web payment, over the counter in Banks, Automated Teller Machine (ATM) Cards on EIRS Official or accredited Point of Sale (PoS) devices as well as the use of Revenue Scratch Cards after the issuance of a bill reference number. The goal, is to enable taxpayer pay taxes, levies, fees and fines seamlessly.
In view of the above, the EIRS Board, in its bid to further sustain the State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) performance, has significantly strengthened the Compliance and Enforcement Unit within the EIRS. This enhancement aims to put in place, better enforcement of tax Laws and to ensure greater compliance among taxpayers, particularly within the haulage space.
Therefore, the engagement of Atalakpa Recovery Concept Limited, is tasked with the specific goals to enforce compliance which will in turn increase revenue collection efficiency, as well as complement the existing digital framework rather than replace it as skeptically reported in the online version of Thisday Newspaper.
The EIRS uses this medium to reassure taxpayers that it remains focused on maintaining a modern, efficient, and transparent revenue collection environment that benefits all stakeholders.
