The Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), Chief Oseni Elamah has formally received the draft curriculum proposal for the establishment of a training institute for the EIRS staff.

Presenting the proposal to the EIRS boss, the Chairman of the Benin and District Society of the Chattered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, Mr. Dominic Eichie noted that the Executive Chairman had in June 2014 enjoined the CITN to partner with the EIRS in the area of developing a curriculum for the premium tax training school in the revenue agency, known as Sunday Okundia Training School.

Eichie stated that upon the realization of the proposal the CITN took into cognizance the categories of staff strength since the essence was to strengthen staff skills by building their internal capacity effectively.

He further stated that the proposal if implemented would meet the yearnings of tax practitioners as resource persons shall be drawn from staff of the EIRS who are to be complimented by some scholars both from the chartered Institute Taxation of Nigeria and Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.

The CITN boss noted that the EIRS tax training school was named after the late Sunday Okundia in view of his appreciation, doggedness and positive contribution towards the developmental growth of Edo State.

He highlighted some of its objectives to include the promotion of the study of taxation globally, enhancing the knowledge of staff in the course of discharging tax responsibilities as well as boost the productivity of the internal revenue service amongst others.

The Executive Chairman, EIRS, (Sir) Oseni Elamah, described the proposal as a laudable one, saying that it has added another pillar to the tax reforms so far carried out by the EIRS in the process of optimizing potentials aimed at generating resources for the state government to being about social infrastructural development in the state.

Chief Elamah advised the visitors to collaborate with the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) with a view to defining the position of the law in the taxation system for adequate interpretation.

He encouraged staff of EIRS to always attend meeting/workshop organized by the CITN as he commended the team for the draft proposal.
