Executive Chairman, Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), Mr Igbinidu Inneh, has brought his Kogi State revenue partner up to speed at using a seamless, transparent, automation system, which would help boost the revenue base.
Speaking through EIRS Secretary to the Revenue Service (SRS), Mr. Efe Iserhienrhien, Inneh stated that Kogi State Internal Revenue’s (KGIR) visit was timeous, as generated information at hand would expose them to the grit of direct knowledge transfer and experience as Edo State was at the verge of completing the automation of the revenue administration system, tailored towards the elimination of receipts via the sale of electronic scratch cards, starting this August, 2018, to actualize set internal generated revenue (IGR) targets for the state.
Using generated data to show the meteoric rise in IGR in Edo State from 2008 till date, Executive Chairman EIRS stated that the work of tax administrators was half solved with the political goodwill enjoyed from government.
Speaking on the Edo State experience, the EIRS Chief stated that the governor and executive members of EIRS worked as a team which minimized friction, thus, making reached decisions final and conclusive.
Pitching EIRS success story on its six critical success factors, Igbinidu urged his Kogi counterpart to mine data for its automation process to know how much IGR was collected or not collected and who is owing government. He sued for the inclusion of people in the process, creating a legal and regulatory environment with a human capital revenue administration process to evolve a formidable tax administration process.
He urged KGIR to get their activities backed by enacted legislative laws to boost public compliance to set rules.
EIRS brought KGIR up to speed on the successes achieved with the implementation of the Edo State Local Government Uniform and Harmonized Levies, Rates, Fees and Charges Law and time duration for collection; dynamics of running a one stop shop on vehicle administration for a seamless renewal process, road enforcement and necessary collaboration with stakeholders.
Team lead, KGIR, and Head, Road Taxes, Mr. Alex Akande appreciated EIRS for the orientation. He noted that in due course KGIR would appreciate liaising with EIRS in the area of tax administration and exchange of ideas on haulage administration, traffic administration, lottery and gaming business.
