Executive Chairman, Edo State Internal Revenue Service, (EIRS) Barr. Oladele Bankole-Balogun has said the EIRS will collaborate with the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria CITN, Benin and District Society in the area of awareness creation on the need for citizens to pay taxes as well as the continuous training opportunities for staff of the Revenue Service.

Barr. Bankole-Balogun said this move was expedient to enhance professional qualification of EIRS staff as they go about enlightening the populace on need to pay tax.

He made the above statement during a courtesy call to his office by CITN where he appraised the demands of CITN executives who congratulated him and the executive directors on their appointments. He listened as the CITN mentioned that his appointment would improve the tax administration of the State, promote economic development and growth through recourse to use of innovative ideas and strategies which would impact on the tax administration system in Edo State.

Balogun stated that EIRS was keen at bringing the populace up to speed on the need to pay tax to boost infrastructural development of the State, in line with the five points agenda of Governor Monday Okpebholo.

The EIRS boss congratulated the CITN Chairman on the successes and recognitions recorded so far by the Benin & District Society in the CITN fold.

Earlier, Chairman, CITN, Benin and District Society, Barr. Felix Ahonsi said they came to pledge their support, collaboration and cooperation to EIRS management. He said a lot could be achieved keying into the CITN’s provision of technical programmes to enhance skills and knowledge. He saw possibilities in the actualization of targets of both tax outfits with the belief that such activities aside deepening tax awareness in the state and beyond, has helped to position the CITN’s Benin and District Society as one of the best in Nigeria.

He said CITN was poised to hit radio and television studios with tax enlightenment programmes this year. He reeled out live updates of CITN’s programmes and the upcoming annual tax conference for this year.

High points of the visit was the preservation of an award plaque to the Executive Chairman in recognition of the Service’s contribution to the development of Taxation in Edo State and presentation of souvenirs to the CITN leadership.
