The Head of Service (HoS) of Edo State Mrs. Gladys Idaho has commended Management and Staff of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) for its positive transformation under the leadership of Chief OseniElamah as Executive Chairman.

The HoS made the commendation at a three-day Executive Management Team Strategic Retreat organized for top management staff of the revenue agency.

She said, “The strategic retreat is in the right direction as it creates an opportunity for learning new ideas, innovations and techniques as well as review activities for the year and equally plan ahead.”

Acknowledging the strategic importance of the revenue agency in the deliverable of good governance, the Head of Service emphasized that the success of the current administration lies squarely on the shoulders of the revenue agency as funds needed for meeting the promises made by Edo State Government to its citizens, must be harnessed internally especially when revenue from the federation account is at a low ebb. She promised to block any leakage that exist within the ministries, departments or agencies under her watch as Head of Service.

Speaking earlier, the Executive Chairman of EIRS, Chief OseniElamah harped on the need for a synergy between institutional reforms and human capital development as a means to achieving government desired objectives.

According to him, “Institutional reform is the core of achieving desired results; because if you do not have institutions, then the bureaucracy cannot adequately deliver. But institutions do not operate in vacuum. It is the individuals that give those institutions the push and the effect that turns out to bring efficiency. And therefore the issue of human capital development is very critical and at the soul of institutional reform.”

Speaking further he said, “We believe that with this kind of retreat, it provides the opportunity to build up those who will be agents of carrying out those reforms and possibly pass it on to the civil service.”
