As Nigeria marks Democracy Day today June 12, 2025, Executive Chairman, Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), Otunba (Hon.) Oladele Bankole-Balogun, Esq, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to all Nigerians, particularly residents and taxpayers in Edo State.
In his goodwill message, Oladele underscores the relationship between democratic freedom and citizens’ responsibilities.. “As we celebrate our hard-won freedom and the democratic values that unites us, we acknowledge the profound responsibility that comes with this power—the responsibility to contribute to the collective growth of our beloved country and State.”
He highlighted the pivotal role of taxation in supporting democratic governance.
According to Oladele, “Taxes are not merely obligations imposed on citizens; they are a vital instrument for development,” they fund essential infrastructure, education, healthcare, and social services that are crucial for creating a prosperous Edo where each naira collected in taxes is a testament to our commitment to building a better future for ourselves and generations to come.”
As the country celebrates 26 years of uninterrupted democracy, Bankole-Balogun expressed immense gratitude to all taxpayers for their vital contributions to building a rising and greater Edo
He urged every active and economically engaged citizen to sustain the culture of tax-paying, viewing it as both an expression of commitment to national and sub-national development and an affirmation of belief in a fair and just society.
“When we fulfill our tax obligations, we actively participate in the democratic process and help to ensure that our governments at all levels deliver on their promises,” he added.
Assuring taxpayers of Revenue Service’s commitment to service delivery and accountability, Hon. Oladele stated:
“The EIRS remains dedicated to ensuring fair treatment of every taxpayer and that the revenue generated is accounted for and judiciously utilized for the benefit of all as evidently seen in completed and ongoing projects executed under the leadership of Distinguished Senator Monday Okpebholo, the Governor of Edo State.
