The Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) has assured the general public and tipping trucks drivers engaged in the business of tipping granite from quarries and sand from burrow pits that it has not changed the fees payable as solid minerals fee in Edo State.
This assurance was made by the Executive Chairman, Edo State Internal Revenue Service, Igbinidu Inneh via a telephone call on a live radio programme ‘Man-Around-Town’ a grass root Pidgin English programme on Independent Radio 92.3 FM
Mr. Inneh said the collection from the tipping truck drivers falls under the mobile payment system of the Edo Revenue Administration System (ERAS) which enables collection possible through the use of revenue scratch card which has a face value of N4,000, N2,500, N1,500 depending on the vehicle’s tonnage, covering components of solid mineral fees, personal income tax of the driver, Local government gate fees and union dues.
Speaking further, the revenue boss noted that Edo State prides itself as the only state in the federation that has introduced the new payment system that is transparent, accountable and enables the recognition of every taxpayer in the tax net.
Describing the new payment method, Inneh disclosed that the EIRS operates a dealership structure, where revenue scratch cards are purchased by accredited dealers and the scratch cards are sold to taxpayers who further hands over purchased revenue cards to revenue collectors for processing using a Point of Sale (PoS) device before issuing a printed receipt signifying payment settlement.
He however warned individuals, group of persons, not authorized by law to administer revenue, to desist from illegal cash collections or face sanctions.
