The reforms currently witnessed in the Edo State tax administration has been described as a right step in the right direction.

The President of the Chartered Institute of Nigeria (CITN), Dr. (Mrs.) Olateju Abiola Somorin made the assertion when she led other members of the institute on a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), Chief Sir Oseni Elamah in Benin City.

Dr. Abiola who took the Executive Chairman down the memory of the formation of CITN, stated that they were in Benin City for a two-day programme which featured three topics on Transfer Prizing Regulations, Withholding Tax and the Role of Technology in Reforms.

While informing the Executive Chairman that the CITN now has its national secretariat in Lagos known as Tax Professional House, Dr. Abiola also commended the state CITN for keeping the flag flying. “Edo State CITN is very strong and I am happy with them”.

On his part, the Executive Chairman, Edo State Internal Revenue Service, Chief (Sir) Oseni Elamah, pointed out that there can be no better time than now for somebody of her (Dr. Aboila) caliber with a lot of wealth of experience to occupy the office as President of CITN.

Chief Elamah admonished the CITN president to ensure that those who are assigned the responsibility of to administer tax laws and policies of government are necessarily and must be members of CITN.

Elamah noted that his coming on board as the Executive Chairman of the EIRS has increased the level of tax professionals’ patronage in the state. This he said was due to process and procedure that has been put in place by the EIRS.

He said the Sunday Okundia Training School of the EIRS was established for training staff in line with policy that would help advance tax professionalism across the country and beyond.
