The Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) has issued a formal notice to all individuals, professionals, and business owners in the state, reminding them of the statutory deadline to file their annual tax returns.
To avoid administrative penalties, all eligible taxpayers must submit their filings on or before March 31, 2026.
In a statement signed by the Executive Chairman, John Osirenimhe Odior, FCA, FCTI, the EIRS emphasized that filing is a “non-optional, statutory, legal, and civic obligation.” The mandate applies to a broad spectrum of the Edo State workforce, including:
* Employees and Professionals
* Entrepreneurs and Business Owners
* Online Traders and Content Creators
* Tradesmen and Women in the Informal Sector
The requirement according to the public notice, is rooted in Section 24 (f) of the 1999 Constitution and Section 13 of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act (NTAA) 2025. To streamline the process, the EIRS has shifted to an electronic system, allowing taxpayers to fulfill their duties from the comfort of their homes or offices.
To complete the filing process, taxpayers are required to visit www.eirs.gov.ng to download Tax Form A with the following attachments which must include:
* A duly completed Self-Assessment Form A.
* Total income from all sources for the preceding year.
* Details of personal reliefs and tax computations.
* Audited financial statements (for business/trade income).
* A valid Taxpayer ID.
* Evidence of payment of the tax due.
Once completed, forms should be emailed directly to e-filing@eirs.gov.ng.
The EIRS warned that failure to comply, refusal to file, or the submission of incomplete or inaccurate information will result in administrative penalties as prescribed under the Nigeria Tax Administration Act.
“Tax filing is not just a legal requirement; it is a vital contribution to the growth and development of Edo State,” the notice stated.
For further enquiries or assistance with the filing process, taxpayers are encouraged to visit
the nearest EIRS Branch Office or contact the service via their dedicated helpline at 0813 097 0146.
