The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), Mr. John Odior, FCA, ACTI, has announced that the Revenue Authority will collaborate with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to enhance tax awareness and ensure compliance with new tax legislations.
Mr. Odior made this disclosure during a courtesy visit from the leadership of the ICAN Benin and District Society, as well as the Society of Women Accountants in Nigeria (SWAN).
During the visit, Mr. Odior emphasized that ICAN leadership bears a professional responsibility to facilitate tax enlightenment and educate the general public on the significant legislative changes that took effect on January 1st, 2026.
“As advocates for the public and as seasoned professionals, we must lead by example by filing our individual tax returns promptly,” Mr. Odior stated. “I urge you to collaborate with us on withholding tax matters even regarding payments made directly to you. It is essential to educate your clients, particularly real estate owners and managers, on their filing obligations. We look forward to a robust partnership in this regard.”

Anwili FCA, PhD, noted that the visit served to formally congratulate Mr. Odior on his appointment as the Executive Chairman of the state’s revenue agency. Rev. Dr. Christopher Awili, FCA expressed his desire for sustained and mutually beneficial collaboration between the Institute and the EIRS to drive fiscal growth.
The visit concluded with the presentation of awards of recognition to the Executive Chairman by both ICAN and the SWAN State Chairperson, Rev. Dr. (Mrs.) Mabel Osewegie, FCA
