The Executive Director, Other Revenue, of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), Hon. Michael Ohio Ezomo, has visited the new state’s computerized motor vehicle inspection centre for an on-the-spot assessment of the motor vehicle inspection process and subsequent issuance of motor vehicle road worthiness certificates. This visit highlights the Service’s commitment to ensuring all vehicles that ply the roads in the state are duly certified and meets the right safety standards.
During the visit, Hon. Ezomo was conducted on a tour of the facilities and observed the step-by-step process of inspection, emphasizing the importance of the need for holistic checks to guarantee roadworthiness of vehicles in the State. He admonished the inspection officials to maintain an enhanced efficiency while maintaining high standards in line with global best practices.
“The whole idea is not just about the Revenue, but about ensuring the worthiness of vehicles certified to ply our roads, likening it to the human body that requires regular checks to ascertain wellness, which in turn will reduce cases of crash and enhancing safety of Taxpayers in the State”
Hon. Ezomo stated, “We are very particular about vehicles that operate commercially, as by their nature, are mostly in the habit of not getting their documents renewed thereby having their vehicles in an unworthy state to commute citizens”.
In his parting remarks, the ED Other Revenue congratulated the officers on the full commencement of the site while admonishing them to continue to ensure the highest safety standards required.
It is worthy to note that the Edo State Internal Revenue Service in conjunction with the Vehicle Inspection Office play a vital role in implementing road traffic laws and regulations. The two Agencies are part of a tripartite arrangement responsible for the registration/ issuance of motor vehicle documents, inspection, issuance of road worthiness certificates, as well as testing of drivers while applying for a driver’s license.
