Executive Chairman, Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) Mr. John Odior FCA, ACTI has reaffirmed that tax compliance remains a mandatory civic duty vital for funding infrastructure and driving state development, while reiterating its commitment to supporting professional groups through simplified tax processes and collaborative engagement.
The EIRS boss made the assertion during a courtesy visit by executive members and leadership of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN), Edo State Chapter, to the EIRS corporate headquarters in Benin City.
Speaking during the meeting, Mr. Odior commended the ACPN for taking a proactive approach toward voluntary compliance.
According to Odior: ” The Tax Law requires a deduction of ten percent (10%) as Director’s Fee which forms part of the Personal Income Tax of the Director of the company.”
Welcoming the proposed collaboration, the Revenue Chief affirmed its readiness to establish dedicated communication channels, assign specialized desk officers, and organize joint sensitization exercises aimed at streamlining tax assessments and clarifying procedures for pharmacists across the state.
Earlier, Dr. Nwachukwu Idemili, Chairman of the ACPN, Edo State Chapter outlined key tax challenges facing community pharmacists in Edo State. The association highlighted the need for explicit guidelines surrounding personal income tax, tax clearance certificate procedures, withholding tax, and local government levies, noting that a lack of structured engagement and reliance on best-of-judgment assessments frequently lead to confusion and friction among its members.
To resolve these administrative hurdles, the ACPN advocated for a structured framework featuring self-assessment mechanisms and formal workshops to build capacity and improve tax literacy within the pharmaceutical sector.
Both parties expressed optimism that the strategic alignment will eliminate arbitrary assessments, boost voluntary compliance, and foster a transparent, productive relationship between the state revenue authority and community healthcare providers.
